It is time to make your dreams happen.
You can start by launching your own blog which will only take about 15 minutes — yes, really.
Why a blog? Because you can use it as a platform to talk about practically ANYTHING your heart desires. You can use it to raise awareness, share your talents, inspire others, build a community, teach a skill, sell products you love, make money doing what brings you fulfillment and joy, etc.
We are incredibly lucky to live in a digital age where this is possible; it is easier than ever to pursue your dream career, and if it doesn’t exist yet – you can create it.
We can build a business from home. We can spend more time with our loved ones and have the freedom to work from anywhere. We can create our own work schedules. We can create passive income online. We can explore our creativity and share it with others. The possibilities are endless.
The good news? You can get started today and work on it as much or as little as you want. What matters is that you finally take the first step!
What’s tugging at your heart?
For me, it’s travel + connecting with people on a deeper level.
What’s been tugging at your heart lately? You can use your blog to share whatever brings your soul to life – what matters is that you get started.
It took me a long time to launch and relaunch my blog because I struggled with waiting for the perfect time, the perfect idea, the perfect domain name, etc. As a result, I cringe whenever I think about where I could be today if I had started years ago and pushed myself to keep going.
There is no perfect time, there is only now. If you’ve always dreamed of starting your own blog, you can get started exactly where you are today.
Now is a perfect time.
Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear.
Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking.
Start with voice trembling but start. Start and don’t stop.
Start where you are, with what you have.

Just so you know:
I personally use Siteground myself and I highly recommend them 100%. I’ve tried other web hosting companies like Bluehost, HostGator, Yahoo, GoDaddy and I ended up canceling or switching over to SiteGround.
I can honestly say that my favorite is now SiteGround and the website you’re on right now is hosted by them!
A couple of things about Siteground that I really love:
- They offer GREAT and FAST customer service.
Getting in touch with a customer service rep NEVER takes more than 1-3 minutes. I’ve had to reach out to them several times (sometimes at 2 or 3am!) for help with my domain, website technicalities, etc. and I’ve never had issues getting ahold of someone.
- Their customer care team is available 24/7!
Every single person who’s helped me so far has been efficient, friendly, and always eager to help. I struggled with the other web hosting companies and were often put on hold for 10+ minutes until I reached someone…sometimes their offices would be closed! I never dealt with any of that with Siteground.
- They’re OFFICIALLY recommended by WordPress
Siteground is a hosting provider that’s OFFICIALLY recommended by WordPress and in my humble opinion, when it comes to blogging, WordPress is king.
So if WordPress recommends them, then you know Siteground is one of the best (if not currently THE best out there right now).
- They’re FAST and SECURE
Aside from the 99.9% uptime (which I’ve learned can pretty much mean anything), Siteground actually USES the best technology (and keeps making improvements as they grow) to keep websites loading as quickly and safely as possible. They also offer instant backup and data recovery! That alone is a major plus for me because I don’t want to spend extra time backing everything up every single day – it’s nice to have a hosting company that automatically does it for you.Seriously, I am thankful I went with them. I’ve actually recently upgraded my account to a 3-YEAR plan with them because that’s how impressed I’ve been with their service.
Without further ado, let’s get your new blog going!
1. Choose your hosting plan
You can always start out with the simplest package and work your way up, but you definitely get the best value if you choose the 2nd or 3rd plan because you’ll have more room to grow without having to upgrade! But ALL of the packages are great – choose what is best for you 🙂
- The StartUp plan is perfect for people with one website that are starting now
- The GrowBig plan is a great value for money offer, including the option for multiple websites and the SuperCacher that greatly improves a WordPress and Joomla website speed
- The GoGeek plan is perfect for people with e-commerce and larger sites, or more geeky development needs like staging and GIT integration (This is the plan I’m currently on. I love it for the advanced features, extra web space, more monthly visits, etc.)
Step 2. Choosing Domain
Now it’s time to choose a domain name! If you don’t have one yet, go with the first one that comes to mind. Go with the one that makes the most sense for whatever it is you plan to do.
A few tips for choosing a domain name:
- Keep it as short as possible
- Avoid any names that are difficult to remember or spell
- A practical name is better than a catchy one. It’s always better if people can tell exactly what your blog is about from the domain alone!
Whatever you do, TRY NOT TO OVERTHINK IT – you’ll only get stuck trying to come up with the perfect domain name.
If you have multiple domains you really like, you can always get one now and purchase the others later. Or, if you’re serious about getting this blogging ball going, you can purchase as many domains as you see fit for your new blog!
Good to know: Siteground offers free website transfer, which is included for the GrowBig and GoGeek plans. So if you already have a domain with another hosting company, Siteground will transfer it over for free.
Step 3. Review
You’ll get the BEST value if you choose the 12-month deal instead of the pay-per-month deal.
Step 4. Review add-ons and complete transaction
For the Location, simply choose the server that’s closest to you.
I highly recommend getting the Domain Privacy – it’ll protect your personal name, address and other information that you definitely don’t want out in public.
The SG Site Scanner is a good add-on, but it’s optional. Add it if you’d like the extra protection.
Review everything and you’re ready to complete your transaction!
Complete the transaction and voila!
You’ve completed the first part.
You’re almost done! Now it’s time to get your WordPress going…
After you’ve completed the transaction, you should receive an e-mail from Siteground which will have all the information you need to install WordPress.
When you first log into your Customer Area, you should see a pop-up asking you if you want to Start a new website on your account. Select that option and click on the WordPress button.
You should see a section where you enter your login information for your new WordPress application.
When you’re ready, click on the Confirm button.
Next, you can choose to add extras if you wish to add any but if you don’t, click the Complete Setup button.
(You can always get a WordPress theme and extras later – I’d skip them for now unless you see something you really like)
CONGRATULATIONS! You’re all set!
You’re ready to start blogging! All you have to do now is go back to the front page of your site and check out the newly installed WordPress application. Use the login information you chose to log into your WordPress account and you’re officially ready to blog – CONGRATULATIONS!
If you’re new to WordPress and have no clue where to start, don’t worry! You can find a ton of helpful FREE information and step-by-step guides on various blogs and even YouTube.
Now you’re ready to CHOOSE A THEME!
A theme is pretty much like the “face” of your blog. Below are some companies I LOVE and have purchased WordPress themes from:
StudioPress.com – I’ve been a fan of Studio Press for years! They offer a ton of sleek, clean, and minimalistic themes that are easy to use.
What makes them special? StudioPress created Genesis Framework, which is probably one of the most well-known theme frameworks for WordPress. StudioPress describes it as “WordPress being the engine of your car, Genesis as the frame and body, and the StudioPress child themes as the paint job.”
The cons: Some themes are a little dated and they have limited features. BUT they do offer more modern themes that cater to various types of industries.
ThemeForest.com – You’ll find a HUGE variety of themes here! You’ll probably spend a lot of time deciding which theme to get because there’s just so many to choose from.
ElegantThemes.com – If you can’t choose just ONE and you’d rather have access to a bunch of themes, then ElegantThemes might be right for you! They offer a MEMBERSHIP and one price gives you access to ALL of their themes (87 themes and 3 awesome plugins, including a visual page builder).
You’re free to change as frequently as you like, and they also offer drag-n-drop themes that are easy-to-use. I haven’t personally used them but I’ve heard great reviews from friends who have.
Below are some amazing YouTube videos that will guide you step-by-step on how to install the themes:
